Prepared on the C1 platform, the new Ford Escape 2013 will be available in all markets where the American manufacturer is present worldwide and will replace the Kuga compact SUV that sold in Europe. In terms of style, you will notice the steeper windshield, the higher beltline and the addition of certain elements of style borrowed from the latest Fiesta and Focus on the front of the vehicle while the wheels of 17 , 18 and 19 inches will be offered depending on model.
According to Eric Loeffler, chief engineer for the Escape, the rigidity of the chassis of the new vehicle would be improved by 20 percent over the previous model. In terms of its dimensions, the new Escape is longer than 3 inches (7.6 mm), wider than one inch (25.4 mm) and lower than 1.6 inch (40.6 mm) while the wheelbase has increased by 3 inches compared to the previous model, but the volume loading of the cargo space remains the same. The rear seatbacks fold easily as it is to manipulate the headrest to tilt forward in order to obtain a flat floor in the cargo hold. The tailgate of the new Escape is open automatically if the driver is a simple movement of the foot under the rear bumper having the smart key on him as the sensors detect the movement to control the automatic opening of the tailgate.
According to Nicolas Lacasse, director of marketing plan for sport utility vehicles at Ford of Canada, the Escape currently holds 20 percent of the market for compact sport utility in Canada, a vehicle sold in five, which is impressive given the that there are now more than 20 competitors in this category where sales are up sharply today.
No price has yet been found for the new Escape, it’s a safe bet that they will be prepared for the Canadian Motor Shows. Another factor to consider for Ford will be the price set by the new Honda CR-V is the number two sales in this niche in the country. To be continued …
